Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I am a New York State licensed psychologist with over a decade of experience. I work with adults of diverse backgrounds and my areas of special interest include difficult life transitions, relationship conflict, racial/cultural identity, and grief and loss. I offer online video therapy sessions (telehealth) exclusively, making therapy comfortable and accessible. Whether you are struggling with negative feelings toward yourself, dissatisfaction with relationships, your academic performance or are having difficulty letting go of the past, experiencing fear about the future, or simply feeling stuck in current circumstances, therapy can bring about needed change. To achieve this, our work together may involve finding meaning and purpose, establishing or recovering a connection to your inner emotional world and/or important people around you, processing and recovering from emotional wounds, be they old or recent, or formulating a concrete plan of action and working on it together step by step. My theoretical orientation is primarily psychodynamic and I integrate other approaches (i.e. DBT, CBT, etc.) as appropriate while always working from a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive lens. I am Zur Institute certified in teletherapy. I offer a free brief phone consultation prior to scheduling an initial appointment in order to clarify whether teletherapy with me would be a good fit. Hello! With over 25 years working with individuals and couples, I have a wide range of counseling experience with issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship conflicts, illness, parenting, loss and bereavement, and aging. I use a range of evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy to help you change unhelpful patterns and realize your goals. My focus is on the development of your personal strengths, emotional and relational intelligence, and resilience. Based on the trust and respect we build together, our work will focus on ways to make your life more satisfying and productive. By listening attentively to your concerns, I can guide you to a clearer understanding of what is holding you back from a more fulfilling life. With compassion and caring, I build on our connection to enhance your ability to cope, to deal with stress, disappointment, anger and grief, and to improve your personal and work relationships. In our first session, we will establish a good working partnership and discuss what brought you to this point and your expectations for therapy. We will create a shared understanding of how you see your problems and how we will work together to reduce your stress and improve your life. Please reach out if you think we might be a good fit! I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am committed to making therapy affordable. Since starting private practice, my clients have been for the most part POC, LGBTQ/non-binary, undergrad/graduate students. Since I spent five years teaching as an adjunct and then full-time professor (in nursing), I have some insights into the challenges today's students currently experience and believe I can be a useful asset toward managing any symptoms that may interfere with obtaining your degree. Even though I am a prescriber, I treat the whole person. I don't want to just know the medicine efficacy, or lack thereof; I also want to know what's going on in your life. Is there balance? Are you connected socially? Should we also be discussing any family issues? Going off to school can be challenging and although psychotropic medication plays a role in ameliorating anxiety and depression, we also can engage non-pharmacologic interventions to get you to a better place.
Cooper Mental Health Counseling was developed by its founder Dr. Marty Cooper. There are several principles that guide our work. We believe that in order to help you we need to understand your concern from your perspective. We believe that you can feel better. Our focus is on your whole life and by maintaining this focus you have the potential to radically change your life. Although we recognize that therapy may be difficult at times, we believe that you have the possibility of finding something awesome on the other side. We will work tirelessly with you to help you develop a road map that may guide you for years beyond your work with us.

My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.

With 15 years’ experience as a bilingual Psychotherapist working with very diverse populations from adults to adolescents who experience depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD I learned that not everyone feels comfortable going to speak to a therapist in a traditional setting like an office. This is why I offer “Walk Talk Therapy” and mobile therapy. I want to eliminate as many barriers as possible for you to get the help you need. Just as we are all encouraged to exercise for our physical health, I believe everyone should connect with a professional therapist to strengthen one’s emotional health. Hello, I’m Jordan. I’m a licensed psychoanalyst and relationship coach specializing in somatic therapy and couples therapy. I work with both individuals and couples in NYC and throughout the world. We will collaborate to identify the dilemmas you are facing, and co-create a process of growth to help you take the next step towards healing and greater life satisfaction and fulfillment. Therapy is for everyone. No matter what your challenges are, you don’t have to do it alone.
I work with people who are carrying a lot — stress, responsibility, trauma, and the quiet pressure to keep going even when they’re exhausted. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and rooted in helping clients feel safe, understood, and empowered in their own lives. I bring extensive experience from the child welfare system, advocacy work, and supporting caretakers who often put everyone else first. I’ve worked with a wide range of populations, including individuals from Ultra-Orthodox communities, people with developmental disabilities, and members of New York City’s largest labor union. These experiences have shaped my ability to meet people where they are, with cultural sensitivity, respect, and curiosity. Many of the people I work with are overworked, overstressed, and struggling to find balance or confidence in the midst of demanding lives. Therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what you’ve been through, and develop tools to feel more grounded, self-assured, and resilient. Together, we focus on building insight, strengthening coping skills, and creating space for relief, growth, and meaningful change. Whether you’re navigating trauma, burnout, or simply need a place to exhale, I aim to offer a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you don’t have to carry everything alone. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=45991"></script>
