Therapists for college students near New York, NY
me: In a relational, humanistic, and conversational style, and through an attachment-oriented lens, I am focused on harnessing the powerful dynamic of the therapeutic relationship, in order to help individuals locate within themselves a sense of meaning and purpose in the here and now. I am focused on developing each client’s ability to maintain internal validity and positive self-regard, in order to reduce self-shame, self-judgement, and self-harm. you: While I work with individual adults of all ages, most of my clients tend to be 25-45, and coming to therapy to work through a variety of human challenges and stressors often associated with complications that occur in the life-stage transitions from adolescence to early adulthood and early adulthood into middle age. For many of us, these life-stage transitions are often extended and/or delayed, leading to feelings of pscyho-emotional paralysis and “stuckness” in repeated patterns of behavior. My practice is also further specialized in working with performing artists and other creative/artistic professionals. The intersectionality of psycho-emotional health and creative identity/artistic process is an area of experience and particular interest to me. Having trained and worked professionally as an actor, prior to earning a master’s degree in clinical social work, I am deeply focused on using the shared language of artistic development to help other artists utilize the many tools and skills they’ve already developed for self-reflection and craft honing as artists, in order to help them create growth, change, and fulfillment in their personal and professional lives. Although many of my clients meet diagnostic criteria for depression, trauma, and anxiety, I aim to see people beyond the diagnosis and view them as the whole human beings they are. us: Together, we will have a meaningful relationship intended to support and foster your personal growth, resilience, healing, and ability to create internal validity, as well as meaning and purpose in the moment. Our relationship exists within the context and framework of weekly, or bi-weekly, 45-minute conversations, focused on examining all aspects of how your pscyho-emotional health and wellbeing correspond to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. No human is broken. We are all operating in the exact way the human system was intended to operate, by adapting; sometimes for the better, and other times to our own detriment. We are all the logical conclusion of the sum of our total experiences. Therefore, we will work jointly to piece together your narrative in a way that connects the total sum of your experiences to your present thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns, in order to learn to move forward, create change, and become the future self that is still yet unrealized.

It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

My name is Eve Buck (she/her/hers), and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I work with individuals and couples living in New York and Pennsylvania at my virtual practice. I completed my master’s degree in mental health counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. My previous training includes working with undergraduate and graduate students at the Fordham University counseling center, as well as community practices where I have worked with culturally diverse clients from all walks of life. I particularly enjoy working with young adults and senior adults and have specialized training in therapy for people who identify as Latinx. It is through the experiences and lessons I have learned along my work and personal journeys that I hope to support your path toward overcoming your personal struggles and finding greater fulfillment. I recognize the wide breadth of human experience and I bring this knowledge with me to best meet your needs. I have over 20 years experience in the human service field. My passion is providing compassionate support for those struggling with life's challenges in a safe and non-judgmental environment; assisting individuals in addressing what is troubling them; whether it is marital conflict, depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, trauma, anger management, serious mental illness, etc.; helping them to achieve their personal goals; effecting positive change and working toward desired outcomes. I incorporate principles from the Christian faith for those who desire that but work with all people/faiths indiscriminately. I love working with college-aged individuals; helping them to navigate the difficulties associated with entering adulthood successfully. I am closely located to Canisius, Medaille, UB South and Buffalo State colleges. Public transportation is available: the bus stops in front of the office and the Humboldt/Hospital Metrorail station is a block away. I also derive great joy in assisting married couples in developing more effective ways of communicating with the end goal of resolving conflict and enjoying a more satisfying relationship where both parties feel valued and connected to each other in a deep way.

I am an EMDR therapist and have certificates in DBT, TF-CBT and MBSR. I am also skilled in working with relationship difficulties. I consider myself to be very open-minded, accepting and empowering. Hi! My name is Samantha Fontana, a licensed mental health counselor at Spotless Mind Mental Health Counseling. I collaboratively work with young adults and adults to improve their mental health by utilizing an integrated and evidence-based treatment approach. Psychodynamic talk therapy, CBT, DBT, ERP, and psychoeducation are just a few of the treatment approaches that I incorporate, as I believe therapy should be individualized for you. Mental health affects every part of your life, and I am here to provide a safe, empathetic, and judgement-free space to explore and express what you are experiencing. At the heart of psychotherapy is accompaniment through one’s inner world. Current difficulties, past struggles, individual and familial traumas, hidden hopes and dreams – all of this will be central to making sense of your present and building toward your future. Starting psychotherapy can feel intimidating, but the benefits can be huge: deeper self-understanding, more meaningful and authentic relationships, reduced depression and anxiety, increased self-confidence. I have worked with a diverse swath of undergrad and graduate students in college counseling centers, and have studied and taught at private and public universities across the country. My specializations include relationship struggles, family conflict and crisis, identity development, career direction, academic concerns, gender and sexuality, trauma, spirituality, creativity, chronic illness, immigration, and LGBTQIA+ issues in teens and adults. I am committed to meeting you where you are at in the therapeutic process, and I welcome exploration of racial, sexual, and gender identities. I am a Harvard Medical School Psychiatry fellow trained in psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness-based therapies, but I believe a strong sense of connection is the most important element in seeking a therapist. I encourage you to reach out to a number of practitioners to find a good match. I look forward to hearing from you.
