At Rivia Medical, we believe in a holistic approach to mental health, with a focus on both treatment and prevention. We believe in listening to each patient and creating a partnership to work on maintaining and improving lifelong health. This includes creating a personalized treatment plan that incorporates the best evidence-based care, but which also takes into account your personal circumstances, perspectives, goals and expectations. High quality mental healthcare is hard to find and hard to afford. We wanted to create a place where people could find reliable and informed psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and therapists, and have the option to explore treatment options other than medication. We are a team of well-trained psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and social workers. We keep ourselves educated and informed. And we focus on understanding you, the individual, in detail before deciding on the right treatment. What excites us about our practice is the excellent clinicians in our group, and the fascinating patients and clients we get to help. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluations and treatment for those suffering from psychiatric symptoms, or psychological distress.
My practice centers on creating a safe and nurturing space for you to explore what is going on with you; your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, desires, strengths, and challenges. We will work collaboratively to move away from feelings like shame and guilt to make space for self-compassion, acceptance and growth. Together we will explore underlying challenges or barriers to reaching your hopes and goals and work through any blockages that come along the way. If you are new to therapy, you are welcome here! It can be an intimidating process to seek help - I hope to be a guide and support on your journey. I approach my sessions with a dynamic and interpersonal lens as we work together to explore your internal and external landscapes. Together, we will identify any barriers or unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviors, and then identify strategies and tools to help you disrupt unhealthy cycles. I believe in the power of authentic human connection and I employ a warm, direct, humanistic and solution-focused approach with clients. Our time together will focus on developing a deep understanding of who you are, what you want to work on in a judgment free environment that will help you engage in your work meaningfully and vulnerably.
I work with students who need more or different support than they are able to access on-campus. You may be looking for long-term therapy or for a therapist who specializes in working with people like you. I am trained in several types of therapy (ACT, DBT, relational, multicultural-feminist) and apply them flexibly based on what you need. Students who work with me are often looking for longer-term therapy, where we address deeper issues in a safe relationship, at your own pace. Others are seeking individual therapy that makes room for activism and the big problems of our time. We may be a good fit for therapy together if you are coping with a difficult family, relationship trouble, recurrent mental health problems (e.g. BPD, PTSD, MDD, GAD), or a life transition (e.g. grief, divorce, pregnancy, moving, spiritual/religious crisis). I also have particular experience working with medical students. Finally, I am a climate-aware and social justice-focused therapist; this means your experience with collective problems like white supremacy and the climate crisis is a welcome, respected, and important part of therapy. I don't take insurance, but I offer sliding scale fees based on financial need. Please reach out to me for a 15-minute phone call to see what might be possible in our work together!
Do you find yourself feeling stuck? Do you feel overwhelmed about making decisions? Do you struggle to feel present due to thoughts of past negative experiences? Are you struggling to set boundaries within your family system? I specialize in working with college students and young adults struggling to cope with anxiety, relationship difficulties, complicated family dynamics, and navigating what it means to become an adult with increased responsibilities. Whether this is your first time in therapy or a recent stressor in your life has led to a need for increased support, I will work to ensure that you feel heard, understood, and safe. I believe therapy to be a collaborative process where we work together to unite your past and present, and help you to work through your problems towards a healthier, happier future. I place a lot of emphasis on creating a warm and welcoming therapeutic environment to allow you to be your most authentic self. Through my work with college students and young adults in the workforce, I have been successful in helping clients find relief from painful experiences and overcome existing barriers. In our work you will be able to discover new insights about yourself and get to the root of your challenges. My goal is to help you regain control and see long term change.
We are a group of therapists of color in New York, whose approach to therapy is rooted in anti-oppressive philosophy. We are committed to providing trauma-informed, strength-based and culturally affirming treatments that center and value the richness of our clients’ lives. Our goal is to build authentic connections that allow for healing, self-discovery and transformation.
Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. Let’s be honest, going to therapy can be a little intimidating. I know what you are thinking, “what would speaking to a shrink do for me? I have so much on my mind, it will take more than a few sessions to unleash everything.” Well…I got time AND passion. I believe that as human beings living in our present society, we are conditioned to put our needs aside and we frequently forget how to take care of ourselves. As your therapist, I am strongly devoted to assisting you in tackling life challenges, managing problems, and coming out stronger than ever because YOU are capable. My approach to therapy is to use a strength based perspective, CBT and create an unapologetic space for my client. I want my client to feel they don't need to sugar coat anything in sessions because I truly believe transparency will open up my client's full potential to self-discovery and personal growth. I know taking this next step is scary AND brave. Imagine yourself opening up to possibilities you only dreamt of and finally being in control over your life and happiness. Let's work together to build that dream by tackling those negative thought distortions and create new perspectives in order to create your new reality.

My approach to therapy is rooted in anti-oppression principles. I have specialized training in trauma practice, particularly around experiences of abuse, violence, and intergenerational trauma. I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques, including psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems/parts work, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and other relational approaches. My approach is collaborative and flexible, meaning that clients and I talk through the styles and tools we can use to best fit what they would like to work through. Much of my experience is working with people of color and queer and trans/GNC communities. My approach is warm, curious, and collaborative, fostering individuals’ ability to build resilience, joy, and power. In my practice, I welcome my clients to process things of all sizes (their traumas and their milder annoyances), explore their identities and experiences, and express a wide range of emotions. You can expect direct communication from me, reflections of what I notice about your patterns and processes, questions to deepen both of our understandings of yourself, and invitations for mutual feedback. I value autonomy and will never pressure you to share things you aren't ready to share, or simply do not want to share.
Life has a way of feeling overwhelming just when you think you’ve got it figured out. Whether you’re navigating a major transition, struggling with a persistent cloud of anxiety, or simply feeling disconnected from the person you want to be, I’m here to help. I believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship we build together. My style is warm, collaborative, and occasionally punctuated with a bit of humor! Healing is hard work, but it doesn't always have to be heavy. Together, we’ll create a safe space to untangle your thoughts and build the tools you need to feel more grounded and resilient.
