If you’re looking for a therapist who shows up like a regular person, and not a blank slate, look no further. In this room, you won’t get a lot of blank “I see” or “Ahh.” Instead, you’ll have a therapist who is warm, empathetic, and (most importantly) FUNNY. I aim to make the therapy room a space where you can show up exactly as you are. That is, authentically you, whatever that looks like on any given day. We can make space to laugh, to cry, to feel what it is you need to feel in order to help you grow into the you that you want to be. I want this relationship to feel collaborative and within your boundaries. If something we’re doing isn’t working for you, tell me and let’s work together to find something that works for you!
I work with LGBTQ+ folks and anyone navigating trauma, OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, or big life transitions... like college students who are panic googling "what am I doing with my life??" at 2am. Whether you're spiraling over every “what if,” feeling stuck in patterns that stem from the past, or feeling like you’re losing your mind trying to figure out who you are & where you’re going, we'll work through this together.

I am a Latina therapist, clinical supervisor, speaker, consultant, and founder of Capaz Counseling. I oversee staff who provide $25 therapy sessions because I believe in supporting the mission of accessible care. I specialize in Attachment and Trauma Therapy and create communities for fellow BIPOC therapists. Over the past decade, in hospitals, non-profits, and school-based mental health clinics, I’ve supported adults, children, and families on a path of attunement and embodied relationships. I flow between Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help folx deepen the relationship they hold with themselves and others. There is strength in understanding the patterns that shape you, and I help shine a light on your immense capacity for growth within and beyond those patterns. Together we will reflect on your inner and outer world so that we can hold space for somatic connection, holistic understanding, and compassion for all parts of you. I enjoy working with those from all walks of life. My expertise shines particularly in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIAGNC folx navigating their professional world, young adults developing their identity(ies), those who’ve experienced trauma, and parents who would like to create new generational cycles in their parenting. As a first-gen entrepreneur, I believe in the power of creating spaces for us, by us. In addition to managing my practice, I’ve found joy in the community I’ve created by launching a New York BIPOC therapist consultation group and listserv, and in supporting emerging practices and early-career therapists navigate their journeys.

Hi & welcome. My college years were a time of great learning and friendship, and also, of significant loss. This led to my own passion of supporting young adults facing challenges and grief during this important life stage. I have extensive experience working with grieving individuals - children, teens, college students, and adults - including after incidents of mass trauma. My practice (CT/NY) also provides support to those struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family and relationship difficulties, academic and career challenges, self-doubt, and stressors due to caregiving. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and results-oriented and incorporates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I also value the role of creative expression and appreciate how art, play, and narrative therapies impact healing. I value each client as unique and resilient. I offer compassion, warmth, and humor as we collaborate to work towards building on your strengths, increasing your coping skills, and creating the changes you hope to see. We're a team and we got this!

Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit.
