Therapists for college students near Boston, MA
Accepting New clients for tele-health sessions only Born and raised in Boston the owner has intimate knowledge of the city and the challenges people living in the city can face. Beyond that the owner recognized the benefit of working with a therapist that looks and has shared experiences with the client. Boston offers a unique population of families, working professionals, immigrants, and college students from both in and out of state. Each therapist on this team fits in one or more of those categories ensuring their ability to understand where you are coming from and where you want to go. It is out of that philosophy that Through The Forest Counseling was created. We know that for clients to get the most out of each session, they should first feel comfortable not just with the therapist, but also with the surroundings. This plays a significant role in their overall improvement. Let us guide you to your destination of a healthier, happier life.
Is it harder than you expected to be a college student? Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and anxious on most days? Things can be different. Imagine if you could navigate the stress of schoolwork, balance your time for the people and things that are important to you, make time for self-care, and quiet your mind so you can have more than a few hours of sleep each night. You deserve more than just making it through the day. I can help you figure out how to make things better. My clients describe me as supportive, nonjudgmental, and easy to talk to. Each individual's journey is unique, as is the way in which we process our environment(internal & external). I look forward to partnering with you. Treatment is a wellness journey, with an aim to enhance motivation and achieve clear goals. I am a firm believer in a multidimensional approach to care in order to achieve sustained wellness. Through direct care experience, my knowledge, motivation and passion for assisting people seeking wellness, has grown exponentially. My experience includes PMHNP Residency training in the VA Boston Healthcare System as well as inpatient Nursing Director at BIDMC.

I am a Harvard and Brown University educated board-certified psychiatrist welcoming new patients seeking tailored, patient-centered psychiatric care in Back Bay. I believe in a thoughtful approach to psychiatric treatment and often advocate for psychotherapy before medications. However, if symptoms are severe, I will work with you to find a medication that may help. Therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or scary. I believe healing works best when we can laugh, reflect, and be real together. I create a space where you can bring your full self, messy, hopeful, curious, and everything in between. Whether you’re navigating stress, identity, relationships, or just figuring out who you want to be, we’ll work side by side to uncover your strengths and help you move forward. As a social work intern, I’m passionate about supporting people through life’s in-between moments, the chapters that feel uncertain, overwhelming, or full of possibility. I bring an easygoing, compassionate style to therapy, blending evidence-based practices with genuine human connection. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental: think of me as both a guide and a co-pilot. I work with individuals who want to explore identity, manage stress and anxiety, process life transitions, and deepen self-understanding. I also care deeply about working with young adults, students, and marginalized communities, helping folks feel seen and supported in spaces that often overlook them. Therapy with me is not about being ‘perfect’, it’s about exploring your story, building resilience, and finding ways to grow that actually feel authentic to you."

I am a psychotherapist with more than 20 years of clinical, teaching and research experience. I work with individuals experiencing an array of circumstances and challenges. One of my specialties is counseling people with a focus on those in high-risk professions (e.g., law enforcement, fire/rescue, EMS, military) and their loved ones. I also work with a broad range of individuals employed in other “helping professions” (e.g., medical and mental healthcare providers, veterinary medicine professionals, educators, prosecutors, clergy) whose careers may have been negatively impacted by job and/or personal circumstances. I work with many other types of clients. My easy-going manner and collaborative style help clients develop effective strategies to enable you to better cope with, or to resolve challenges and issues, which adversely affect well-being and quality of life; depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, addiction, grief/loss, trauma, medical problems etc. The blending of my academic training, life experiences, accumulated clinical skills, and my “ability to be real with clients” combine to put my clients at ease and guide them in successfully navigating life’s challenges.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over fifteen years of working with individuals, groups, and families. I believe that healing can come through the development of mindfulness, in the empowering of ourselves through self-awareness, the constructive exploring of our relationships with others, and taking the time to create peace and clarity in this complex chaotic world. During our time together, I hope to provide an environment for you to revive your joy, feel whole versus disjointed, and seek to create a balance between challenge and kindness for yourself. I have extensive experience with relationship issues, parenting, anxiety, stress management, adjustment, grief or loss, and trauma. I recognize that reaching out to begin this journey is a brave and important step. I am aware of the privilege it is to accompany you.

For more than 20 years, I have provided therapy to individuals, couples and groups, as well as offering training, consultation and clinical supervision to community organizations. My work centers around bridging transitions, fostering personal growth and developing compassionate responses and strategies to address life’s challenges. In addition to providing support and encouragement, I will challenge you to think critically about the choices you are making and to work toward overcoming the obstacles that may be keeping you from achieving your goals. Whether you’re trying to learn something new, working on making a transition, or building your support network, you have a lot of choice about how and with whom you work on achieving your goals. There are therapists and other service providers to appeal to everyone’s personal style. Taking the time to find a professional who is not only credentialed, but who has an approach or philosophy that resonates with you is an important first step. My approach to everything that I do is to be as real as I can be. Whether I’m working with an individual in a therapy session, presenting to a large audience or collaborating on a community project, I’ve never been someone who is good at faking it. What you see is what you get. I hold myself to the same standards to which I hold my clients—authenticity and honesty are essential. I provide my clients with an accurate reflection of what I see and a professional assessment of how they might do things differently. I will challenge you to think critically about the choices you make and the impact those choices are having on your life. I rely heavily on resources that foster creativity and humor. I don’t rely on gimmicks or hidden agendas—if I’ve got information or tools that will help you, I will share them with you and encourage you to make them your own. As a therapist, I work hard to be flexible and responsive to the needs of my clients. There may be times when you feel you need more encouragement and support and less constructive feedback. Other times you may find that confronting an issue head-on feels more productive. I will encourage both of us to be patient with the process and to pay close attention to progress so that we can make adjustments throughout our work together. My areas of expertise include: mindfulness and meditation; strategies for coping with depression and anxiety; issues around sexuality, sexual functioning and relationships; sexual and gender identity; social skills; trauma; grief; substance use; attention training and living with uncertainty and change. To find out more about me, check out my website at www.jennbrandel.com, or call me to set up an initial consultation to see if we may be able to work together effectively.
